 Official History 1966
On 1 January 1966, the 178th Aviation Company, including the 400th Transportation and 774th Medical Detachments, was located at Fort Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to the 10th Aviation Group.
During the period 5-25 November 1966, in support of Operation "Attleboro," the largest ground operation of the war as of 31 December 1966, the unit flew 1829 sorties, 508 hours, and airlifted 2525 tons of supplies and equipment.
As of 1 January 1966 the most serious maintenance problem was the fact that nearly one hundred newly assigned aircraft mechanics were not qualified in the 1964 model CH-47 helicopter (the model assigned to the 178th).

 12th Aviation Brigade
The 12th Aviation Brigade was first organized as the 12th Aviation Group at Fort Benning, Georgia, on June 18, 1965 and deployed to Vietnam in August 1965 as a command element for the nonorganic Army aviation units in the Republic.
The 12th Aviation Group, assigned to the III Military Region in Vietnam, was the largest unit of its type to serve in combat.
In October 1987, under Army-wide restructuring, the 12th Aviation Group was redesignated as the 12th Aviation Brigade, the 11th Aviation Battalion became the 5th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment.

As the fighting in Vietnam was escalating in late 1965 and early 1966, elements of the 175th Aviation Company that had been training in Air Mobile concepts at Ft Benning Georgia were shipped to Hawaii.
In February 1966, their aviation assets were put at the disposal of the 25th Infantry Division.
It would see, and be part of the bloodiest fighting in all of Vietnam from it's inception in 1965 until the 25th Aviation Battalion stood down on 7 December 1970.

Established in May 1966, the 1st Aviation Brigade consistently supplies the "extra edge" with which the ground commander can keep pressure on the enemy, maintain contact in fluid situations, cut off the enemy's withdrawal and complete the destruction or capture of his forces.

The 145th Aviation Platoon (Airlift) is attached to 5th SFG (ABN) instead of Project Delta due to the rank inversion that exists between MAJ Kevin Murphy, 145th Aviation Platoon (Airlift) Commander and MAJ Charlie Beckwith, Commander of 5th SFG (ABN), Det B-52, Project Delta.
The platoon is organized in two sections, the first composed of the assets of the 145th Aviation Platoon (Airlift) and the second is composed of the 6th Aviation Platoon that was formerly attached to the 145th Aviation Battalion.
May 1966, For his actions in a firefight north of Tay Ninh, SGT Mahlon Buckalew, the first Wolf Pack Platoon Sergeant, was awarded the Silver Star, making him the first member of the 281st Aviation Company (AML) and the 10th Combat Aviation Battalion to receive such an honor.

20 Feb 1968 Avery Aviation Inc., Greybull, WY Nov 1969 Hawkins and Powers Aviation Inc., Greybull, WY In 2002 the airframe was loaned to Classic Rotors, San Diego, CA.
Useful parts were stripped from it for the restoration of HUK 146321 (N3910).
Two of these were in wrecks and will be used for parts to rebuild the third one to flying condition.
