  Casper Aviation Platoon
Casper Aviation Platoon was the only separate aviation platoon in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Casper was organized with the 173d Airborne Brigade on Okinawa in 1963 and arrived in country with the Brigade on May 5, 1965 becoming the first U.S. Army ground unit committed to the Vietnam War.
During our Tour of Duty in Vietnam, the platoon was relocated four times and finally called LZ English home from 1968 to 1971.

  Army Aviation; the Army's air force
Campbell went on to suggest that military aviation should be developed in Australia and soon after he wrote to the Minister of Defence submitting a plan for a school of aviation and an aviation corps.
In January 1989 command of 5 Aviation Regiment was transferred to Army and A and B Squadrons were raised with Black Hawk helicopters for troop lift and Bell UH 1H Iroquois helicopters as gunships.
Headquarters 16 Brigade [Aviation] provides a deployable aviation component headquarters element and is responsible to the Chief of Army for the technical control of Army Aviation and to the Land Commander for the command of Land Command Aviation.

The mission of Army aviation is to find, fix, and destroy the enemy through fire and maneuver; and to provide combat, combat service and combat service support in coordinated operations as an integral member of the combined arms team.

 History for 11th Aviation Regiment
The 11th Aviation Regiment's history can be traced to the 11th Airborne Division which served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and in the Army of Occupation in Japan after the war.
In 1968, the Group moved to Phuc Vinh in III Corps and remained there until early 1971 where the Group was awarded the Valorous Unit Award for the period 6 May 1969 through 1 February 1970.
In February 1971 the Group was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade and redeployed to Marble Mountain Army Airfield near Da Nang.

During 1968 and 1969 elements of the Task Force were occasionally operating beyond the economical range for the aircraft, so detachments were then deployed away from the main servicing facilities, thereby adding to the servicing workload.
The Army Aviation presence at RAAF Amberley ceased by the end of 1973 when the School of Army Aviation and 5 Base Workshops Battalion finally departed for Oakey, by then a well-established base.
From the first delivery in July 1977, this twin-engined aircraft added a new dimension to the capacity of Army Aviation by greatly improving its ability to deploy its aviation assets in the field and by providing a faster, larger and longer range aircraft to support the Army.

 101st Aviation Battalion History
Other aviation assets in the Division were small Air sections in each brigade headquarters, a med-evac helicopter unit, one Air Cav Troop on loan from the Americal Division and the Aerial Rocket Artillery Battalion.
Serving as Post Aviation Safety Officer, I had become very attuned to the activation and closure schedule of the departure airfield control group and their Air Force counterparts.
On 1 July 1968, while NEVADA EAGLE was in progress the 101st Airborne Division changed its name to the 101st Air Cavalry Division.

 160th Combat Aviation Group (1966 - 1968) - Hue - I Corps
The 17th AHC began its tour in 1965 and became part of the 1st Aviation Brigade in August 1967.
AHC became C Company of the 101st Combat Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne and remained in I Corps; at LZ Sally and Phu Bai for the rest of their tour which ended in Feb 1972.
It was a part of 1st Aviation Brigade until July 1968 when it was reassigned to the 101st as A Company, 159th Battalion.

 Welcome to 33d AVIATION BATTALION
(Recsinded 23 December 1974.) On 1 February 1968 the 33d Aviation Battalion was deleted from the Troop Allotment to Illinois; concurrently Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment was redesignated Company A, (Air Mobile), 47th Aviaiton Battalion.
The horse's head alludes to the 33d Aviation Battalion's descent from the Chicago Black Horse Troop of the Illinois National Guard.
The wings refer to the unit's present aviation function and the change of colors allude to the reorganization which resulted in the unit's switch to aviation.

10th Aviation was inactivated 30 December 1980 at Fort Lewis, Washington and with the exception of a brief activation in the 1st Armored Division in Germany, was not reactivated until 1988.
The 10th Aviation Regiment was reactivated on 7 March 1996 at Fort Drum, New York as part of the 10th Mountain Division’s 10th Aviation Brigade.
10th Aviation regularly repeated this standard of success in the intervening years and was recognized for valorous actions at Dak To and Tuy Hao Valley.

At the same time aviation operating and support units in the field reached and maintained levels of operational readiness and flying hour rates that many believed were beyond reach with the "state-of-the-art" helicopters deployed to Southeast Asia.

The lineage and history of U.S. Naval Aviation squadrons has been a source of confusion since the birth of Naval Aviation in 1911.
When dealing with a squadron's lineage, the only correct terms to use are establishment, disestablishment and redesignation.
It was not disestablished during this time frame and had a very limited number of personnel assigned to the squadron which was located at NAS Lemoore during the inactive period.

 The 164th Combat Aviation Group History
The 13th Combat Aviation Battalion and the 307th Combat Aviation Battalion, both comprised of companies that had seen duty in Vietnam prior to the activation of the 164th CAG, were assigned to the Group.
On 31 January 1968, at 1500 hours a fire team of AH-1G Cobras from the 114th AHC and a fire team of 2 UH-1Cs' from the 175th AHC were scrambled to a known VC concentration southwest of Sa Doc.
On 8 December 1968, "D" Troop, 7/1st ACS was released from attachment to the 12th CAG and returned to its parent unit stationed at Vinh Long.

The Squadron became 1 Aviation Regiment on 26 April 1966.
Kiowas from 1 Aviation Regiment and Black Hawks from 5 Aviation Regiment were deployed to East Timor in 1999 as part of the United Nations Interfet Force.
In 2000, a Commander Divisional Aviation at colonel level was created to command the two aviation regiments, and in 2001 an Aviation Capability Development Group, again at colonel level, was created to introduce new capabilities to Army.
