The Kansas City Sports Commission and Foundation is a privately funded, nonprofit membership organization incorporated in both Missouri and Kansas.
In 1968, the Kansas City Sports Commission was instrumental in securing an expansion franchise, the Kansas City Royals Baseball Club, to come to Kansas City, as well as assisting with efforts to pass bond funding to build the innovative Truman Sports Complex.
The Sports Commission landed at its current 5,000 square-foot headquarters in the fall of 2000.

Deringer was the College's Director of News Bureau and Sports Information from 1968-70, Assistant to the Vice President for Development and Public Relations from 1970-72, and Director of Public Relations from 1972-74.
He began his career in journalism in 1962 as news editor at WCHA radio in Chambersburg, PA. In 1963 he was appointed news and sports editor of the newly founded Chester River Press in Chestertown.
Deringer has received awards for editorial writing, columns (general and sports), sports writing and photography, he was a finalist for the John Hay Whitney Journalism Award in 1984, and he has twice received the Award for Excellence from the Chesapeake Publishing Corporation.

In 1968 he won 16 games again, and recorded over 200 strikeouts for the first of nine consecutive seasons; but the Mets moved up only one spot in the standings.
In 1969, Seaver and the Mets completed a truly remarkable season, coming from nowhere to win their first World Series championship.
At year's end, he was presented with both the Hickok Belt as the top professional athlete of the year and Sports Illustrated magazine's "Sportsman of the Year" award.

Arledge, the longtime head of both ABC Sports and ABC News, died Thursday afternoon (Dec. 5) in New York City of complications from cancer.
He was promoted to president of ABC Sports in 1968, and in 1970 launched "Monday Night Football," now in its 32nd year.
Beginning in 1977, Arledge took on the additional duty as president of ABC News; he would serve as head of both the news and sports divisions till 1986 and continued running news until 1997, when he was named chairman of the division.

An Army private in 1964, Davenport was the surprise winner in the 110-meter hurdles at the Olympic trials and suddenly became the favorite for the gold medal.
Davenport was the national champion in the event the next three years, and his Olympic gold medal in 1968 was earned in what he considered a perfect race.
The 1968 Olympic team in Mexico City, was described by Craig Masback, executive director of U.S. Track and Field, as "the greatest track team in history." Beside Davenport, it included Bob Beamon, Lee Evans, Jim Hines, Wyomia Tyus, Bob Seagren, Tommie Smith and John Carlos.
