The Canadian Grand Prix (known in French as the Grand Prix du Canada) is a Formula One auto race held in Canada since 1967.
The 1997 Canadian Grand Prix was stopped early due to a huge accident involving Olivier Panis.
Because of tobacco legislation, new venues, and a maximum of 17 races on the schedule, the Canadian Grand Prix was preliminarily removed from the 2004 F1 schedule.

By 1969 the safety of the Spa circuit was seriously challenged and the Belgian Grand Prix moved to the race track at Nivelles.
From 1970 to 1982, the Belgian Grand Prix was held at the Nivelles and Zolder racing circuits.
The 1973 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder was a disaster, as organizers had left the resurfacing work too late and the track was still not properly hardened, breaking up in places and having to be patched the night before the race under the threat from drivers to cancel the race.

Canada first joined the Grand Prix scene in 1967 and apart from absences in 1975 and 1987 the trip to the land of the Mounties has been a regular fixture on the Grand Prix calendar.
In a similar arrangement to the organisers of the British Grand Prix, the Canadians elected to alternate the venue for their race, between Mosport and Mont-Tremblant.
Weather was always a factor here both during Grands Prix and sports car event and so in 1978 Formula One moved to Montreal.

The usual field was bolstered by third cars being run by Lotus (a four-wheel-drive 63 for John Miles), Matra (a four-wheel-drive car for Johnny Servoz-Gavin) and BRM (for local driver Bill Brack).
Stewart was unable to restart his car and so Ickx was able to take the lead and won the race, while Brabham came through to second, passing Rindt on lap 60 to make it a Brabham 1-2.

The event was also staged on that circuit in 1969 and from 1971 to 1977 with 1975 as an exception since no Canadian Grand Prix took place that year.The Mont-Tremblant Circuit, in the Laurentians, north of Montréal, was the site of the Canadian Grand Prix in 1968 and 1970.
The track was named the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in honor of the famed Canadian Formula 1 driver who died in May 1982, during a practice session at the Belgian Grand Prix.
