Murph Chamberlain, a little-known left-winger who spent 13 seasons in the NHL with Toronto and Montreal, also played until he was 44, retiring after the 1948-49 season.
Mark Messier, for example, is closing in on the incomparable Gordie Howe for most NHL seasons (26) and most regular season games played (1,767).
