 Fathers Rights? - Roger Gay - MensNewsDaily.com™
Baskerville is a political science professor and well-known fathers' rights advocate who called into question the efforts of activist social conservatives to strengthen fatherhood and preserve the family.
Under question is whether family rights are constitutionally protected or merely political constructions to be modified at the whim of legislators.
While the source of the right to privacy has been held to originate in varying constitutional provisions, it has been long recognized to apply to "family" concerns whether the family exists within the confines of marriage or not.

Gay Law Reform Achieved   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Gay law reform in Tasmania not only finally rids the country of these offensive and damaging laws - it also sets a high standard for the equal treatment of all citizens.
In comparing gay law reform in each State and Territory it is apparent that Tasmania, along with South Australia and the ACT, now leads the way in treating its homosexual citizens equally under the law.
Up until gay law reform in Tasmania the trend was for the principles of equality which underlie gay law reform to be increasingly compromised by discriminatory age of consent, public decency and public advocacy laws.

That legitimization of gay relationships by marriage is a prime goal of gay activists is clear from numerous sources.

SocietyGuardian.co.uk | Housing | Tenancy ruling marks gay rights watershed
A gay man has the same rights as a spouse or a cohabitee of the opposite sex to take over a dead partner's tenancy, the court of appeal ruled yesterday in a historic judgment for gay rights.
Three appeal court judges used the Human Rights Act to overturn a House of Lords ruling that gay partners can be treated as members of the same family for the purposes of succeeding to a statutory tenancy, but are not entitled to the stronger rights of heterosexual partners living together as husband or wife.
Limiting the right to pass on a tenancy to heterosexuals was discrimination, in breach of article 14 of the European convention on human rights, the judges said.

Gays, lesbians and bisexuals are being "discriminated against" when their unions are denied marriage recognition.
Marriage is a "basic human right" and choice of marriage partners should in no way be regulated by government; therefore same-sex couples should be allowed to legally marry.
Argument 1: Gays, lesbians and bisexuals are being "discriminated against" in being denied the ability to legally marry; this "discrimination" should be remedied by immediate same-sex "marriage" recognition.

Even though some gay rights activists called for the legalization of polygamy in the past, that does not mean that the same logic and reasoning can be used to justify same-sex marriage and polygamy.
The reason you don't see gay rights activists asking for the legalization of polygamous marriage is because there really are good reasons not to grant those particular benefits.
Just because "early gay rights activists" may have included polygamy in their early fight does not prove to me that any of the gay-rights activists have as well.

 IS THERE A GAY AGENDA?
If gays are presented, instead, as a strong and prideful tribe promoting a rigidly nonconformist and deviant lifestyle, they are more likely to be seen as a public menace that justifies resistance and oppression.
First, the mainstream should be told that gays are victims of fate, in the sense that most never had a choice to accept or reject their sexual preference.
It is especially important for the gay movement to hitch its cause to accepted standards of law and justice because its straight supporters must have at hand a cogent reply to the moral arguments of its enemies.

Antisodomy laws make gays into “presumptive criminals,” a national gay advocacy group writes in its brief on the Texas case, justifying “myriad forms of discrimination.” They change the climate, making gays into second-class citizens, scaring some of the nation’s 600,000 same-sex families into secrecy.
Texas, meanwhile, argues that it’s within its rights to prosecute two gay men as a “symbolic expression of disapproval.” This seems thin.
