Swedish Grand Prix - Definition, explanation
The Swedish Grand Prix was a round of the Formula One World Championship from 1973 to 1978.
In the first Swedish Grand Prix, local hero Ronnie Peterson came close to winning the race for Lotus, but suffered a puncture on the last lap to allow New Zealander Denny Hulme through to win.
That was as close as any Swede came to winning on home soil, and the deaths in 1978 of both Peterson and Gunnar Nilsson contributed to the demise of this round of the world championship.

Then, in the season-ending United States Grand Prix at the newly-extended Watkins Glen race course, the Frenchman earned his first and only Grand Prix win.
Cévert became only the second Frenchman to win a Grand Prix (Maurice Trintignant won at Monaco in 1955 and 1958), and it was the high point of his career, helping him take third place in the 1971 Driver's Championship behind Stewart and Ickx.
In 1973, he finished second six times, three times behind Stewart, who acknowledged that, at times, the Frenchman had been a very "obedient" teammate.
