His Grand Prix driving career was very short compared to many other drivers, but in spite of that he is on a current top-10 drivers' list.

The 1974 United States Grand Prix was a Formula One race held on October 6, 1974 at the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Race Course in Watkins Glen, New York.
Early in the year, Peter Revson, one of only five American drivers to win a Grand Prix, had died in a testing crash, but the American crowd had countrymen Mario Andretti and Mark Donahue at The Glen to carry the star-spangled banner, and they were both driving American-built cars for American teams.
On lap 10, the Surtees of Austrian Helmut Koinigg, in just his second Grand Prix, went off in the hairpin where Regazzoni, Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Andretti had crashed in practice, probably due to a deflating rear tire.

He drove a rented Brabham in the 1974 Canadian GP but continued to specialize in F5000, finishing fourth in the US series in a Lola T332 that year and fifth in a Lola T400M in 1975.

This form earned him a drive with Ferrari for 1959, and he stared his second season with the Italian team by finishing second in the Argentinian Grand Prix, but he was thrown from his car in practice at Monaco and broke an arm, leaving him on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
It almost went right in the French Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand in 1972 though, as the race was his for the taking when he suffered a puncture and fell back to third place.
