  Belgian Grand Prix Information
To accommodate Grand Prix motor racing, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps race course was built in 1921 but it was only used for motorcycle racing until 1924.
The first Belgian Grand Prix was won by Antonio Ascari whose son Alberto would win the race in 1952 and 1953.
In 2006, the FIA announced the Belgian Grand Prix would not be part of the 2006 Formula One World Championship, since the local authorities have started a major repairment work in Spa Francorchamps.

In 1976 it was Nivelles turn to organize the Grand Prix but the Belgian delegation from the FIA found the track not longer suitable for Formula 1 because the condition of the asphalt.
In this period the Dutch KNMV was using the circuit because races on streetcircuits where banned in Holland at that time.

At the 1979 Canadian Grand Prix, Lauda informed Brabham owner Bernie Ecclestone that he wished to retire immediately, as he had no more desire to "drive around in circles".

Regazzoni won five of his 132 Grands Prix in an 11-year career, which ended when he was paralysed from the waist down in a crash at Long Beach in 1980.
He won the team's home Italian Grand Prix later that season, becoming a darling of the tifosi (fans), and was retained by Ferrari for 1971.
Despite a victory in the US Grand Prix West at Long Beach early in 1976, Regazzoni fell out of favour with Ferrari and he was replaced by the Argentine Carlos Reutemann for 1977.

Police said Regazzoni, who was paralysed after breaking his back in a crash at the 1980 U.S. Grand Prix West in Long Beach, died when his car collided with a truck on a highway to the west of the Italian town of Parma.
He drove for BRM for a season in 1973 before returning to Ferrari in 1974 as team mate to future triple world champion Niki Lauda under the guidance of team manager Luca di Montezemolo, now the Ferrari president.
