Indeed, when the Carlton recruiting team initially turned up at the Nicholls residence it was Don, not John, that they were anxious to sign, and Don Nicholls made his VFL debut with the Blues a season before his brother.
In 1925 he began the season as Carlton's playing coach, but later in the year he crossed to Footscray, which was making its VFL debut that year.
In 1974 he was a member of the Blues team which defeated Glenelg in the first ever grand final to be played at Football Park.

Over the next few seasons, Beecroft's form fell away somewhat, and it was something of a surprise when he was selected in West Australia's team for the 1975 knock-out carnival clash with the VFL in Melbourne.
After running 7th in 1973 the Eagles endured a horror start to the 1974 season which ultimately precipitated Barrot's departure, in somewhat acrimonious circumstances, midway through the year.
That was the year that Barrie Barbary put in a best on ground performance as South Australia overcame the VFL on the MCG for the first time since 1926.

Parke topped Melbourne's goal kicking in 1972 with 62 goals, but began to struggle for consistency after that and was transferred to Footscray in 1974.
Park played a total of 128 senior games for Carlton between 1932 and 1940, and was a VFL interstate representative in 1938.
Parke finished his career with a season at Norwood in 1976, followed by a season with Fitzroy.

In the VFL’s first season of 1897 the destiny of the flag had been determined by a round robin series between the sides occupying the top 4 positions at the end of the home and away rounds.

A pacy, strong marking, long kicking half back for most of his career, Payne was among the best players afield when the Blues thrashed Fitzroy by 49 points in the 1906 VFL grand final.
On 5 May 1974, a in round 5 match against Central District, North Adelaide wingman and on-baller John Phillips had the honour of gaining the first mark at the SANFL's new headquarters at West Lakes, Football Park.
