The man who coached the Warriors to their only NBA championship since they moved west -- this is the 30th anniversary of the 1974-75 title season -- started his 45th season with the franchise earlier this month, a remarkable run in today's transient, hop-to-the-next-job sporting world.

Lange was hired by the Penguins for the 1974-75 season, who didn't use him during the bankruptcy-plagued season that followed, but have retained him for every season since.
Lange modeled himself -- the catch phrases at least -- after Bill King, whom he listened to as play-by-play man for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL and then-San Francisco Warriors of the NBA.
Lange's catch phrases have found their way onto t-shirts and into the lexicon of even casual sports fans in a city where Lemieux is hands down the most popular athlete.

Indeed, Baylor should be named the NBA's Executive of the Year for the deft decisions he's made that have resulted in the Los Angeles Clippers winding up in the playoffs and winning the most games 47 since they were known as the Buffalo Braves and had 49 victories during the 1974-75 season.
But Elgin Baylor, who carried the Laker franchise in its early L.A. days along with Jerry West, who once averaged 38.3 points during a season, who had acrobatic moves that even Kobe Bryant would envy, deserves credit for the Clippers' success.
Of course, Elgin Baylor also should be bestowed the Congressional Medal of Honor for his 20-year record of bravery under relentless fire working for the daffy Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling, who actually hasn't been that daffy in recent times.

The Clippers are in the playoffs for the first time since 1997 and have achieved the franchise's best record (47-35) since the 1974-75 season, when they were known as the Buffalo Braves.

Dunleavy seems to have command of his players, and can be credited with the development of emerging center Chris Kaman, who often mentions his coach's name when talking about the Clippers' resurgence.
