 NORTH MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB
This was a season celebrated by the League as their centennial year as it was the hundredth season of VFL/AFL football.
In 1896 a breakaway group saw the establishment of the Victorian Football League (VFL) from which North Melbourne was excluded mainly through the opposition of the Collingwood Football Club which had not forgiven North for a controversial game in which they had met.
It was not until 1975 that they finally won their first League Premiership, the culmination of a plan hatched under the presidency of Allen Aylett 4 years before.

Over the next few seasons, Beecroft's form fell away somewhat, and it was something of a surprise when he was selected in West Australia's team for the 1975 knock-out carnival clash with the VFL in Melbourne.
Rod Barrett was a performer of consistently high quality for South Fremantle in 177 games between 1975 and 1983.
After running 7th in 1973 the Eagles endured a horror start to the 1974 season which ultimately precipitated Barrot's departure, in somewhat acrimonious circumstances, midway through the year.

An interstate representative on 10 occasions, Nelson - almost always referred to as 'Sandy' - put on one of his finest, most resolute displays in the 1975 NFL championship final against the VFL at Football Park when he comprehensively outpointed future Sturt player Gary Hardeman.
A VFL interstate representative in 1948 and 1949, he retired, somewhat prematurely one feels forced to infer, at the end of the 1950 season.
In 1908 he both skippered the Magpies and played for the VFL in the inaugural interstate carnival in Melbourne.

Over the next few seasons, Beecroft's form fell away somewhat, and it was something of a surprise when he was selected in West Australia's team for the 1975 knock-out carnival clash with the VFL in Melbourne.
Beecroft had won Williams' senior fairest and best award the previous season and, playing mainly as a ruckman, he soon developed into a handy player for Swans.
Barry Beecroft retired at the end of the 1985 season.

The final phase of Roberts' league career was in the VFL with Richmond (97 games from 1971-5) and South Melbourne (15 games in 1975).
Roberts was success in the VFL, kicking 135 goals in 50 games spread over three seasons.
Arguably Neville Roberts' best football came during his six season stint at the Parade, a fact that was endorsed with his selection in a forward pocket in Norwood's official 'Team of the Twentieth Century'.
