1976 - The Olympic Games were held in Montreal, but the football tournament featured only 13 teams instead of the normal 16 after the African nations boycotted in protest against South Africa's apartheid policies.
The first national championship for the Connaught Cup was played in Fort William (now Thunder Bay) and was won by Norwood Wanderers from Winnipeg.
After missing the qualifying rounds for the 1962 and 1966 World Cup's, Canada entered the 1970 competition, beating the U.S. and Bermuda in Toronto, playing a tie in Bermuda and losing to the U.S. in Atlanta, to be eliminated.
