NASCAR felt that the adjustability of the flap would net an advantage over the other cars (DUH!!), so the team would start their 125-mile qualifying heat in last place.
As the 1976 season drew to a close, the team continued it's streak of top ten finishes when the engine was cooperative.

Weight of drivers is of minimal importance because the NASCAR cars weight in the 3000 lb range, similar to that of a small family sedan.
