 Niki Lauda
Born on February 22, 1949 in Vienna, Austria, to a wealthy family, he became a racing driver in 1968 and began racing in Formula One with the March team in 1973.
In 1976, Lauda suffered horrific injuries at a crash at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring.
After leaving Ferrari to join Brabham in 1978, Lauda endured two unsuccessful seasons, notable mainly for his one race in a radical design which used fan-assisted aerodynamics.

But at the German Grand Prix on 1 August, Lauda crashed his Ferrari at Bergwerk, a 150 mph section of the Nürburgring, in a massive, flaming accident that still brings shivers when viewed to this day.
Suffering severe facial burns and inhaling toxic fumes from the car's burning bodywork, Lauda was expected to die and received the Last Rites in the hospital, but in a rare display of sheer determination, made a near-miraculous recovery to return to the cockpit just six weeks later for the Italian GP, where he finished 4th.

That winning Grands Prix in a Ferrari isn't something that comes easy, is clearly shown by the fact that only Alberto Ascari, Niki Lauda and Michael Schumacher won more than 10 races for the team.
