  1979 (song) at AllExperts
The song was written by Billy Corgan and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
The controversial Milwaukee band The Frogs have charged that the main guitar riff from "1979" was plagiarized from the riff in their song "Pleasure".
This could be a joke, however, as Corgan was 12 years old in 1979, and the song has been interpreted as being written from an adolescent's point of view.

Boston Collaborative Encyclopedia of Western Theology: Song Choan Seng
Song believes that the theological task as such enables Christians "to penetrate the facade of religions and cultures and discover their place in the common humanity of the Asians" (11).
Song’s theological construction is based on a synthesis of the liberation theology, the narrative theology, the biblical theology and the theology of culture.
Song uses the word "transposition" to characterize the task of the "contextualization of theology." For Song, the current Asian theological values are the values transposed from the West, not from the biblical faith of Palestine.

The songs of the early 1970s saw continued experimentation with psychedelia in music, as well as the popularity of country rock, soft rock, and folk songs of such artists as John Denver, the Eagles, Bread, and America.
Many popular songs of the mid-1970s were of the styles funk and soul, and scores of fl artists rose to the top of the charts.
Finally, as seen in songs like M's "Pop Muzik," The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star," as well as songs by such bands as The Cars, the late seventies contained the beginnings of techno-pop music that would become the hallmark of the 1980s.

A LONG STRANGE TRIP TO 1979
Luck had very little to do with the initial writing of "1979." The song wasn't really a song as the Mellon Collie sessions wound toward their conclusion last summer in Chicago.
When the time came for paring down the nearly 40 songs in contention for what would be a 28-song double-CD, it was an easy call for Flood, the famed producer (U2, PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails) who shepherded Mellon Collie through its six-month studio birth with Alan Moulder and Corgan.
The song, an indictment of rock stardom that Corgan says is done at least partially tongue in cheek, is mirrored by a video that suggests a connection between the frantic activity in a concert mosh pit and the oppressive conditions in a labor camp.

Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles Songfacts
It's extremely catchy, and for a 1979 song, the recording is fantastic (with a studio wizard like Trevor Horn as producer, of course the results are stellar).
It's also strange that the song made that 65-44 move at all, given that the Buggles were relatively unknown at the time and the song wasn't very typical of late '70s popular music.
If the song was performed in a film, the video would have been that scene from the film in which the song is performed.

A song created without a DJ (it was recorded by Sugar Hill records' house band which appropriated the music of Chic's "Le Freak" as the band rapped lyrics about teenage troubles and angst), "Rapper's Delight" generically suggests that 1979 can teach me (and my students) something about writing, about DJing, and about cultural critique.

 SignOnSanDiego.com > News > Features -- 'Mondays' took on a new meaning
The song was inspired by San Diego's Brenda Spencer, who infamously said that she didn't like Mondays when asked what prompted her to shoot and kill two people and wound nine others in 1979 at Cleveland Elementary School in San Carlos.
But Geldof maintains that the song's lyrics took on an entirely different – and far more profound – meaning when he performed "I Don't Like Mondays" in London at 1985's Live Aid benefit concert and at this summer's Live 8.
That resonance can be heard on the newly released "Live 8," a four-DVD set that includes Geldof's impromptu version of "I Don't Like Mondays," along with songs by all of the artists who performed July 2 in London's Hyde Park and the same day in front of Philadelphia's Museum of Art.
