The Intellivision is famous in my mind for striving to be educational and appeal to a higher intelligence than many other systems.
This may not be true, it's just the feeling I get from their line-up of games and memories of the actual system.
The Intellivision did have quite a few innovations though, including the "Intellivoice" peripheral that allowed certain games to speak (horribly, but speak none-the-less).
