 | | The mid to late 1970's were a time of high inflation in Ireland, and by 1980 the old series with a highest value of 8p was no longer adequate. |
 | | On 11th June 1980, the 55-year old designs finally gave way to a rather functional new series of designs, with the release of the 1p, 2p, 4p, 6p, 8p, 18p, and 24p values, followed on 22nd August 1985 by the 20p, 30p and 50p. |
 | | Inflation continued at a lesser rate through the most of the 1980's, and on 6th October 1988 another new series was issued, this time with a top value of £1. |
