 Tim Hortons Brier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tim Hortons Brier, also known as the Brier, is the annual Canadian men's curling championship, sanctioned by the Canadian Curling Association (CCA).
The Brier is contested by 12 teams: most provinces are represented by 1 team, Ontario by 2 teams (Ontario and Northern Ontario), and the territories by another.
The winner of the Brier goes on to compete as Team Canada at the World Championships of the same year.

It will also be the 29th time that the province has staged the Brier, with Toronto hosting it a total of 14 times, all during the early years of the championship, from 1927-39 and 1941.
The last Brier held in Ontario was the 2001 Nokia Brier in Ottawa.
Since 1980, when the first Labatt Brier was held in Calgary and a playoff format was introduced, 17 of 26 Brier winners have also gone on to win the men’s world curling championship.

After winning the Provincial title (the Labatt Tankard), they triumphed at the Canadian Championships in Red Deer and brought the Labatt Brier back to BC for the first time in 30 years.
In 1974 and 1983, he was National Mixed Champion, and in 1980 he captured the World title.
He was the runner-up at the Brier in 1989 and 1993.

Sometime in 1983 the Deputy Minister of Finance came to the minister and said: "Sir, we have a problem of a complaint regarding Shoal Island." Having heard that, the minister wants me to accept that his only action was to ignore it because an internal audit was already going on.
Chairman - is that sometime in 1983, upon the minister's receipt of the information from the Deputy Minister of Finance that there was a serious complaint regarding Shoal Island, nothing was ordered by him regarding this case and nothing was triggered by the deputy regarding this case.
Chairman, with reference to the interim financial statements for the nine months ended December 31, 1983, 1 think one of the members commented in the House that this is a fairly new document to be prepared, but actually it has been going for quite some time.

 Manitoba Curling Association - MB Curling Hall of Fame
George is affectionately known as the "Father of the Macdonald Brier Tankard." He was President of the Manitoba Curling Association in the 1928-1929 season.
In 1998 John was Director of Facilities for the Labatt Brier.
Her resume also shows that she skipped her team at the 1981, 1982 and 1983 Provincial Championships, and played third on a mixed team in 1983 and 1984.

Over 220, 000 spectators took in the excitement during the 1999 finals, and the Brier is slated to return to Edmonton in 2005.
Northlands has also hosted a variety of specialized athletic events, including the 1983 Universiade, and a portion of the Commonwealth Games.

That means Yukon (deaf club) is the first host in any national level curling championships (like Brier, Scotts Tournament of Hearts, Mixed champ and Junior champs).

The Scottish Curlers have made eight more official visits to Canada since their first visit in 1902-03, namely, 1912, 1923, 1938, 1949, 1957, 1965, 1975, and 1983.
Nova Scotia has always been happy to act as their hosts for a short portion of their visit.
There are now five National playdowns under the jurisdiction of the C.C.A. There is very good news in B.C. According to the B.C. Employers' Council, the average annual all-industry wage settlement increases in 1983 were only 4 percent as opposed to 11.7 percent in 1982.
That is a 7.7 percent drop, and I think it is very convincing and unchallengeable proof that this administration's compensation stabilization program, which was the first and the best of its kind in Canada - initiated last year and continuing - is not only highly successful but nationally pathfinding.
The July 1983 budget went a considerable way to achieving the goal of less government and less costly government for the taxpayer.

The Penetanguishene rink of skip Russ Howard and his teammates, vice-skip Glen Howard, second Tim Belcourt, lead Kent Carstairs and spare Larry Merkley, won its third Ontario men’s curling championship in four years last February and then went on to place second in the Canadian Labatt’s Brier the following month.
Meanwhile, the Thunder Bay rink of skip Heather Houston and her teammates, vice-skip Lorraine Lang, second Diane Adams and lead Tracy Kennedy, captured the women’s world championship in Milwaukee earlier last month with a spine-tingling eight-to-five win over Norway.
