The Grand Prix started with the driver’s cup and in 1958 a constructor’s cup was established as a reward for the team accumulating the most points each season.
In 1983, all downforce regulations were scrapped and a new rule was inked that stated that the cars should have a lower flat structure.
The 1983 season with its 15 Grand Prix witnessed a fierce competition between a number of the drivers mainly Nelson Piquet that continued to wage a war against the drivers especially French Alain Prost who drove for Renault and Ferrari’s driver Rene Arnoux.

Since then, it became prohibited to use the Grand Prix title for an event which did not count towards this Championship, except in the rare case of historic justification, such as the Grand Prix de Pau, which is currently a Formula 3000 event.
He won his first Grand Prix in the European GP at Jerez 1997, and went on to win World Championships in both 1998 and 99.

One of them was 1983 test driver Jonathan Palmer, who qualified for the Brands race in a third car where Jacques failed to do so.
It would be a full ten years later before Senna finally became a Williams driver - as it turned out for three races only.
