His first place Tour de France achievements were in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1985.
In the 1980 Tour de France he was forced to abandon while wearing the yellow jersey because of a knee injury, but he returned to victory in the following two years, 1981 and 1982.
In the 1985 Tour Hinault's lieutenant Greg LeMond was under strong pressure from Koechli and his team manager to support Hinault and not try for a victory of his own.

 Kraftwerk - Tour De France
While most of Kraftwerk's back catalogue quickly made the transition to CD, "Tour De France" somehow got left in the wilderness, largely because it was only ever released as a single.
There's the basic French single version, the original extended mix, and the François Kevorkian remix that appeared on the 1984 release (the single was released to coincide with the Tour De France in both 1983 and 1984).
It's not a tremendously exciting video, I must admit - three minutes of fl and white Tour De France footage - but it's noteworthy that the music itself is the German language version of the track, rather than the more familiar French version.

Tour De France Soundtracks is the embodiment of modern art in it's purest and truest form.
Nice to have the remix of the original Tour de France, but the new version (and all the other tracks) are a bit dull.
Not only Tour de France 2003 is the album of the week, TDF2003 is the most important music event of the century and also probably will turn itself into one of the most important titles of the electronica in the history.

 KRAFTWERK Tour De France Soundtracks
So, it took no less than the centenary of the Tour de France, by far one of the most demanding sports events on the planet, for the German masters of electronic music to come out of their retreat.
Presented in an almost identical artwork to the 1983 Tour De France 12” and the unreleased Techno Pop album, which was originally due that same year, Tour De France Soundtracks still feeds on some of the minimalist structures championed by the band in their heyday.
Tour De France Soundtracks, if not as defining a piece of recording as Radio-activity or Trans-Europe Express, still credibly fits in with most of the current electronic movement.

Professing their love of the fusion of humans and technology, Kraftwerk took the analogy to its furthest limit with 1983's ''Tour De France''.
Tour De France Soundtracks is exactly that: a series of musical concept pieces designed to reflect the ultimate European sporting celebration of muscle and titanium.

Things may not have changed for the German wizards over the past 30 years, but they're still as relevant today as they were back when they were the only computer geeks around pushing this kind of music.

Sudden, spectacular moments make the Tour de France what it is. Racing can change in an instant, whether from a rider's quick acceleration, an unseen obstacle in the road, or a cyclist's unscripted emotional finish-line reaction.
Great Tour moments are etched in race lore, and they occur in an instant, year after year — always when least expected.
Tour riders have a love-hate relationship with the famous and infamous race peaks, and nothing speaks to the severity of the climbs (and to the race directors who devise their ascents) like Lapize's outburst.

KRAFTWERK UNIVERSE - Kraftwerk Seattle concert reviews compiled by Frank X. Cordero
Monday night's selections from their latest album, "Tour de France Soundtracks" (yes, it's about biking), were, of course, thematically predictable: the well-timed huff and puff of a biker's breathing, the rhythmic grinding of a chain, and footage of bike races.
Tour de France Soundtracks never actually becomes quite that funny (unless the fussy ostinatos all over “Vitamin” count, and they might), but Kraftwerk’s modesty can still overwhelm.
Taken in that light, “Tour de France” seems to be both a bid to symbolically return to the point just before everything went wrong and defy their mortality, both as creative individuals and as human beings.

Kraftwerk: Tour de France Soundtracks: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
"Tour de France"-- not a particularly classic entry in their singles catalog in the first place-- was left to drift into nothingness, and all was tidily swept under the mouse pad.
In fact, when the three-part "Tour de France" single was released earlier this year, many fans were disappointed: it would take more than modern tweaking to turn its thin melody and almost non-existent lyrical concerns (even for Kraftwerk) into something interesting.
Perhaps the only really disappointing aspect of Tour de France-- beyond the still-not-that-great version of the title song (which ends the album)-- is that it emits a muted, comfortable aura rather than the immediately striking tone of their classic releases.

 Hour.ca - Music - Spin - Tour de France Soundtracks - Kraftwerk
Tour de France Soundtracks, their first album in 12 years, takes from modern techno of the last decade as techno took from them previously, and the result is a slightly more spacious, sterile and club-ready offering, though nowhere as imaginative as one might have expected from these former innovators.
The chilled, occasionally septic and unexpectedly stand-off-ish Tour de France is ultimately not nearly as much fun, fun, fun on the autobahn.
But "Tour de France Soundtrack" has a sound that is not as innovative as I would have expected.
