Roger Miret has been a quintessential part of the New York City punk/hardcore scene for a lot time, he was an important player in the movement of the genre all over the world as he led the famed Agnostic Front.
Miret's vocals are strong and gravelly and come through with a sense of honesty as he sings about rebelling, rioting, being a hooligan, hating everyone, a rebel female, and remembering old times in New York back in 1984 among other things.
Roger Miret and The Disasters are one true punk band amongst an unknown amount of emo bands, making for a nice break in the monotony of the same song over and over again.

Upon the huge success of Agnostic Front, Miret came to be a legend in the genre, and uses of the then-famous “Oi" element got them noticed.
The cliché chants become a bit overloaded throughout some of the album, but as small a matter as that is, it deserves to be pointed out.
To punk rock, to the sounds before Miret, and to the listeners that brought him to be.

 Punknews.org | Roger Miret and The Disasters - 1984
This late in the game Roger Miret's very good at what he does, so while 1984 is an album full of street punk clichés and free of any real surprises, it still manages to deliver a catchy batch of shout-along rock'n'roll.
The Disasters continue to have a lot in common with the U.S. Bombs, as Miret spits out lyrics with the delivery of Duane Peters while the band's backing vocals are layered to drive the chorus hooks as deep as possible.
Miret's vocals are at their most interesting when he's completely departed from anything resembling Agnostic Front.

Roger Miret And The Disasters - 1984 - Montag Press
Roger Miret you see is one of those anorak-wearing historical re-enactors - sad little enthusiasts who lovingly re-create famous battles and skirmishes in muddy fields on weekends.
Catch-up time; Cuban born punk-rocker Roger Miret formed Agnostic Front in 1982 took hardcore, threw in a pinch of metal and established himself as the baddest bad-ass motherfucker in a world of bad bad-ass motherfuckers and to just prove it he bred pit-bulls and even did a spell inside.
‘1984' is a misty-eyed flick through the great man's vinyl collection; their muddy field is a stage in a grimy punk-rock club and their lovingly recreated battles of antiquity are bands like The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers and Sham 69 as they fire out toe-tappingly boisterous punk'n'roll sounding eerily like early stripped-down Social Distortion.

Roger Miret and the Disasters, led by another old friend of Frederiksen's, opens tonight's gig.
Testing out new material from their forthcoming album, 1984, Miret (who also serves as singer for legendary New York hardcore band Agnostic Front) teeters at the edge of the stage with his low-slung guitar and rallies the rowdy crowd into singing.
Later, as the Disasters blast through two Agnostic Front songs with that group's guitarist, Vinnie Stigma, the crowd abandons their sporadic pogoing and whips full throttle into a swirling circle pit that braces both of the side walls.

Punk As CD Reviews: Roger Miret and the Disasters 1984
Although seemingly originally formed as a side-project, Agnostic Front man Roger Miret's The Disasters go from strength to strength in establishing themselves as a formidable genre outfit in their own right.
The album continues the sound established on the first full-length - a no-nonsense, brash, rock 'n' roll influenced punk rock album.
The first peak of the album is second song in, "Riot, Riot, Riot", which demonstrates that even a straightforward rock song can be propelled upwards through some subtle use of dynamics and a catchy-as-fuck chorus.

Roger Miret was born to Cuban immigrants fleeing Castro's Cuba, and grew up on New York's Lower East Side.
Generally speaking, his politics and causes are those of the street, of the Irish immigrants of the last century and of the Latino immigrants of this one; justice, loyalty, fair policing, giving people a break, and taking care of one's own.
It also helps that Miret's songs are born of personal experience rather than youthful idealism, which is the difference between the old neighborhood organizer trading punches inside City Hall and the idiot kid burning the flag outside.
