The first NHL Amateur Draft was held on June 5, 1963 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec.
In 1985 the first draft outside of Montreal was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario in 1985.
A thing about the NHL draft is that it is often unpredictable in terms of where a player is going to go in his future.

Was first NHL points leader to reach 100 penalty minutes in same season since Bobby Orr in 1974-75 by achieving feat during 1988-89 season.
Lemieux had used the words "garage league" to describe the NHL and complained that referees were letting less talented players have the advantage due to their refusal to make necessary calls.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman met with Baldwin and Marino on July 8 to try to facilitate an amicable ending to their partnership and leave the Penguins with one owner, but neither man was willing to give up his share of the team.

His first international success came in 1984 when Finland won silver in the U20 World Championship tournament in Sweden.
