In addition to the mentioned causes for the famine, the following contributed to the severity of the famine: Britain did not offer very little aid to India, rebellion, and the region experienced a destructive cyclone during that year.

It was recorded in November 25, 1984, and released in time for the holiday season.
USA For Africa's song, "We Are The World," was written by Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, and produced by Quincy Jones.
