South Australian Government forecasts that the GP would put South Australia "firmly on the map for international tourists" were not fulfilled.
The Victorian Government's evaluation of the 1996 Grand Prix commented "There is still no firm data available from the tourism research bodies on the impact of international exposure of Australian cities from major sporting events on induced tourism." (p.45) and estimated only $6 million worth of induced tourism from the Grand Prix.

On closer inspection though, this is no picture from a Grand Prix weekend (the dolly bird holding the lollipop gives that much away) as the picture is from the Jerez circuit which has not held a Grand Prix for years.
In their Chinese Grand Prix preview they inform us that Takuma Sato was penalised 10 grid places in Japan for shunting Michael Schumacher out of the Italian Grand Prix.
Grand Prix Diary checked the FIA’s sporting regulations and found nothing to forbid an invisible car, although General Safety Regulation 90, which says ‘Any driver intending to leave the track should signal his intention to do so clearly to other competitors and in good time’ could be the teams only stumbling block.

The climate in late summer is perfect, the people are friendly and, to top it all, the Grand Prix is one of the most well organised of the year.
Since the Grand prix came to Albert Park, the south Melbourne area has benefited from a lot of regeneration and there are now plenty of places to stay within walking distance of the track.

 A Race to Remember
The 1985 Australian Grand Prix is that kind of race, with as much excitement as the 1986 one, and even more.
Alain Prost was largely without serious competition in 1985 and the Frenchman had the championship in the bag after the European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, with two races still to go.
The 1985 Australian Grand Prix was also Niki Lauda's last race, as well as Team Renault's - both historic names in Formula One.

British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in 1970, no particular tale to tell but I was hooked and have been almost every year since.
I had attended 'clubbies' at my local circuit (Croft), but thought that the paddock and pits would be 'off limits' at the Grand Prix, so we spent the whole day in the Grandstand.
