The Ensemble first commanded attention by winning first prize in its category at the Canadian Music Competitions on three occasions (1976, 1979, 1981).
It launched its career in 1978 with a much noticed performance at the 13th Convention of the ISME in London, Ont., which led to appearances at the 14th and 17th Conventions of that same organization in Warsaw (1980) and Innsbruck (1986).

Four weeks later Ricardo Paletti was killed in his Osala at the start of the Canadian GP at Montréal (now named Circuit Gilles Villeneuve), and Pironi himself suffered terrible leg injuries in practice for the German GP at Hockenheim two months after that, never to race in F1 again.

This form earned him a drive with Ferrari for 1959, and he stared his second season with the Italian team by finishing second in the Argentinian Grand Prix, but he was thrown from his car in practice at Monaco and broke an arm, leaving him on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
It almost went right in the French Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand in 1972 though, as the race was his for the taking when he suffered a puncture and fell back to third place.

There was a month between the Monaco and Canadian Grands Prix.
There was to have been a Belgian GP at Spa in the middle weekend and all the teams turned up and qualified but the new track surface was torn up by the cars and on Saturday evening the race was called off.
Later in the race Johansson was able to move ahead of de Angelis as well and so Ferrari scored a 1-2 with Prost moving to third in the closing laps ahead of Rosberg, de Angelis and Nigel Mansell (Williams-Honda).
