 Phish.Net FAQ: The White Album
Update: The White Tape was released independantly in August 1998 exclusively through Dry Goods -- $13 for the 16-track disc, with both original artwork by Trey and new work from Pollock.
Basic I.D.: The White Album (aka The White Tape; also labelled Phish and simply "demo") is a collection (actually, two collections) of Phish material used as a demo/sample tape for clubs etc. It was never officially released, but circulates through trading circles.
Throughout 1996, there was a shift/movement to call the collection The White Tape rather than The White Album, partly because it was and always has been in fact a tape and not an album; and also because there was increasing confusion with 10/31/94 II, during which Phish covered the Beatles' White Album in its entirety.

Repulsion set about recording the 'Slaughter of the Innocent' demo during 1986, a recording that would later in fact become the 'Horrified' abum, eventually releasing the record via the Earache/Carcass imprint Necrosis in 1989.
Despite it being common place now, the band's lyrical stance containing descriptions of horror movie style gore and violence was extreme and over the top, attracting many converts used to political themes and the usual warnings against nuclear war and enviromental destruction.
Scott Carlson enjoyed a brief stint in Cathedral during 1994 but since then has kept a low profile, perhaps content in the knowledge that his work with Repulsion has more than earned its place in extreme music history, with bands such as Entombed paying homage by covering 'Black Breath' on their 'Out of Hand' EP.

With "In the Doghouse," the defunct Throwing Muses finally fulfill an old promise to reissue their extraordinary debut -- the first record by an American act released on the until-then Anglophilic 4AD label in the United Kingdom -- in the United States.
With their martial drumming, abrupt rhythm changes and ornate dual guitars, the songs on "Throwing Muses" could have been recorded yesterday, especially the still startling "Call Me" and "Vicky's Box." Only Gil Norton's "Joy Division lite" production has aged poorly.
The immediate follow-up EP, "Chains Chained," is also here; its slightly more linear songs are a welcome penumbra around the molten core of "Throwing Muses." The demos will probably be of interest only to fanatics and collectors -- but hey, fanatics and collectors were what "Throwing Muses" was all about.
