The NHL Entry Draft is a collective meeting in which the franchises of the National Hockey League systematically select the rights to available amateur players who meet the eligibility requirements to play professional hockey in the NHL.
The first NHL Amateur Draft was held on June 5, 1963 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec.
The NHL draft is often unpredictable in terms of where a player is going to go in his future.

NHL Central Scouting was first established prior to the 1975-76 season to provide a scouting and evaluation service for NHL member clubs.
