 1st Winter Asian Games
The 1st Asian Winter Games was held in Sapporo, 1986.
With promotion of winter sports in Asia and improvement of competitive skills as primary objectives, inauguration of the Winter Asian Games was approved during OCA General Assembly held in Seoul, Korea in September 1984.
At the same time, Sapporo, Japan was given the privilege of hosting the 1st Winter Asian Games for it had expertise and infrastructures gained through 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic games.
