The 101st Aviation Brigade (Wings of Destiny), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky is composed of a brigade Headquarters company and four aviation regiments and one cavalry unit.
The Aviation Group and the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Division proved to the world that Army Aviation and the Air Assault concept were indeed up to the challenges faced on the modern battlefield.

The 5-101st Aviation Regiment originated at Fort Carson, Colorado on 25 July 1968 as the 158th Aviation Battalion.
The battalion was at the forefront of aviation service during the decade of the seventies, developing the tactics and doctrine that would turn the 101st in the Air Assault Division.
In December 1986, the 158th Aviation Battalion underwent AOE reorganization and in October 1987, the 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment was created.
