The Trade refers to the Tuesday, August 9, 1988 NHL trade which saw Wayne Gretzky of the Edmonton Oilers traded to the Los Angeles Kings.

Salming played his final NHL season in 1988-89 as a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
When he left Toronto after the 1988-89 season, he was the Maple Leafs' all-time leader in goals, assists and points by a defenceman.
He established a Maple Leafs record by being named to the NHL All-Star Team for six straight seasons from 1974-75 to 1979-80, and was the runner up to Larry Robinson in Norris Trophy voting in 1976-77 and 1979-80.

Some seasons are incomplete, especially in the areas of uniform numbers and playoff statistics.
This is due to one of two reasons - either I don't have the stats for them, or the player was traded during the season and the "official" stats do not differentiate between the two teams.
