  Thierry Boutsen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1983 he drove in the European Touring Car Championship and in the World Sportscar races, where he won at Monza with Bob Wollek.
His Formula 1 debut came wit Arrows at the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix but his real oportunity came when he drove for Benetton in 1987.
In 1989 Frank Williams signed him for a two-year contract in which he won the rain soaked 1989 Canadian Grand Prix and Australian Grand Prix.

The city found $2m for upgrading work and after a period of frenzied rebuilding the circuit (which was designed by Roger Peart) was ready for its first Canadian GP on October 8 1978.
The dispute led to the removal of the Canadian Automobile Sports Club as the national sporting authority of Canada but the race was back on again in 1988, after the track had undergone considerable modification.
The race continued to throw up the occasional surprise with Thierry Boutsen winning for Williams - Renault in the wet in 1989 and Nelson Piquet surprising himself with victory for Benetton in 1991 after Nigel Mansell broke down on the last lap.

Obviously, riding well in the Olympics (Canadian national team) and the progression of the BMC Software Grand Prix is where my focus is now, however I take every race seriously and I like to win.
I have just been the benefactor of perfect teamwork the first three races of the BMC Software Grand Prix and hopefully we’ll see the same results in Boston.

That winning Grands Prix in a Ferrari isn't something that comes easy, is clearly shown by the fact that only Alberto Ascari, Niki Lauda and Michael Schumacher won more than 10 races for the team.
In fact, the flest time of the entire decade came when reigning World Champion Jody Scheckter failed to qualify for the Canadian Grand Prix in 1980.
The extremely good figures for this year must of course be taken with a pinch of salt, as one year cannot be compared to a whole decade, but the number of podiums in 2000 is still very remarkable.
