Music genre -   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Melodic music is a term that covers various genres of non-classical music which are primarily characterised by the dominance of a single strong melody line.
Melodic music is found in all parts of the world, overlapping many genres, and may be performed by a singer or orchestra, or a combination of the two.
Traditional pop music overlaps a number of these categories: big band music and musical comedy, for example, are closely allied to traditional pop.

 Why Music
Music increases a student's learning capabilities in many other areas, as various studies show: In 1987 to 1989, students taking music courses scored an average of 20 to 40 points higher on both verbal and math portions of the SAT's than students who took no arts courses.
Music programs alone may not be the answer to all the educational and social problems among youth, but many agree it would be foolish to discount music education's contributions to finding solutions in these areas.
Music is one of the few areas of study available to children that can bring such a diversity of positive factors together in the same classroom at the same time.

"Music Box" is no different, and for that (and for the fact that this was probably Eszterhas' best idea ever), it is an utter and complete failure.
The film is not helped by the fact that the music box of the title does not come into play until the last ten minutes, and that it is a literal (not metaphorical) music box.

The History of Rock Music - The Eighties
A seminal achievement of the latter part of the decade was the merger of industrial music with hard-rock and heavy metal, pioneered in Switzerland by the Young Gods (1), whose L'Eau Rouge (1989) made music by sampling heavy-metal guitars and symphonic sounds.
Ministry's first tour de force of machine music, Twitch (1986), was still in the vein of Cabaret Voltaire but already displayed the violent fits that eventually took over The Land Of Rape And Honey (1988): guitar riffs and distortions, hammering drums, sound effects and demonic vocals gave new meaning to the word "industrial".
Neurosis' music was one of psychological subtlety, based on the cynical orchestration of eerie dissonances, heavy riffs, frantic drumming, instrumental distortions, screams, whispers and echoes, a blend that mostly sounded like the nightmare of a deranged mind.
