  NHL Entry Draft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first NHL Amateur Draft was held on June 5, 1963 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, Quebec.
Prior to this year the Entry Draft was conducted in Montreal hotels or League offices and was closed to the general public.
In 1985 the first draft outside of Montreal was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario in 1985.

As a bantam player in St. Foy, Quebec, Boucher was drafted in the Midget Draft by the Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Eric Lindros won that honor, and was selected with the top pick overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, by the Quebec Nordiques.
In exchange, the Sabres received backup goaltender Robb Stauber, veteran defenseman Charlie Huddy, hot young defenseman Alexei Zhitnik and a 5th Round choice in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, which the Sabres later used to select Marian Menhart.

He finally stuck in the NHL in 1996-97 with Detroit and won two Stanley Cups with the Red Wings.
One of the reasons for the Oilers’ poor seasons in the mid ’90s was their inability to draft well.
