Wening earned the right to swim on the U.S. National Disabled Swim Team, a subset of the U.S. Paralympic Team, by qualifying in the 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter butterfly events, where he swam a world-best time for this year (4:58.68) in the 400 freestyle and set a new U.S. record (1:19.54) in the 100 butterfly.
Three days later he finished eighth in the 100-meter freestyle and, on Aug. 23, he and his teammates came in fifth in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.
