He was drafted out of Stanford University by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round (82nd pick overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft.
Lynch was known throughout the NFL as a ferocious hitter, often punishing wide recievers who crossed the middle of the field trying to catch footballs, and once knocked out his brother-in-law, John Allred, at the time playing TE for the Chicago Bears, with a helmet-to-helmet hit.
In 1992, Lynch, who was a two sport star in both baseball and football at Stanford, threw the first pitch ever for the Florida Marlins organization, for a minor league affiliate of the Marlins.
