1993 World Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1993 World Series was the second Series in a row played outside the United States of America.
This was only the second Series concluded by such a home run (the first was in the 1960 World Series on a Bill Mazeroski home run for the Pittsburgh Pirates), and the first such occasion where a come-from-behind walk-off home run won a World Series.
World Series MVP Paul Molitor became the first man in World Series history to have at least two home runs, two doubles, and two triples.

The 2001 World Series (the "November Series") took place between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Yankees and was arguably one of the most exciting World Series in recent memory.
Additionally, the Series would be taking place in New York City only seven weeks after the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks, representing a remarkable boost in morale for the fatigued city.
The series was opened in New York by President Bush, who memorably threw out the ceremonial first pitch, a strike to Yankees backup catcher Todd Greene.

1993 World Series by Baseball Almanac
After shocking the baseball world by defeating the perennial National League champion Atlanta Braves in the previous Series, the Toronto Blue Jays returned to defend their "Canadian Classic" title against the Philadelphia Phillies (who had finished last in '92).
The controversial move represented a way around the no designated-hitter rule that was in effect at the National League's ballpark and the "fake DH" filled the gap with a two run triple in the first inning and a solo homer in the third.
Game 4 was by far the most memorable outing of the Series and set three records in a single game including the longest World Series game ever (four hours, fourteen minutes), most runs by both clubs (twenty-nine) and most runs scored by a losing team (fourteen).

Gibson was 2-0 thus far in the Series, having allowed only one run and 11 hits in 18 innings; Lonborg also was 2-0, having given up one run and a mere four hits in 18 innings.
Gibson now boasted a 5-1 record and a 2.00 ERA in World Series competition, with 57 strikeouts in 54 innings and only 37 hits allowed.
