Dáil Éireann - Volume 433 - 08 July, 1993 - Irish Aviation Authority Bill, 1993: Second Stage (Resumed).
The ultimate aim of any national aviation policy should be to gain access for Irish operators to as many international markets as possible and ensure that they can compete on a level pitch with competitors in other markets.
Aviation policy is not something that should be taken as an optional extra in this House or something to be sidelined.
There are many players in the aviation world but none will consider investing in Aer Lingus until it is a viable company and has the appetite and desire to make its way in a hostile environment.

We testified in April 1993 that the containers that FAA is testing would add an average of 3,200 pounds to an aircraft's weight, thereby increasing fuel usage and operating costs.
In February 1993, FAA awarded the group a $1.6 million grant to assess the vulnerability of a wide-body aircraft to an internal explosion.
In a November 1993 letter to the FAA Administrator, the Aviation Security Research and Development Scientific Advisory Panel also expressed concern about FAA's lack of progress and leadership in light of foreign governments' initiatives to install and operate advanced U.S. technology at their airports.

Explorers, Daredevils, and Record Setters: An Overview
But in reality, these aviators were actually pushing themselves in a courageous and determined manner to move beyond their supposed mental and physical limitations to conquer their many challenges.
Even though transoceanic flights held a certain degree of romance in the 1920s and early 1930s, one of the most remarkable aviation endurance and distance records of the era was set by former barnstormer Wiley Post, the one-eyed son of a poor farmer, and Harold Garry, a well-known Australian pilot.
As aviators were exploring the most extreme reaches of the Earth during the 1920s and 1930s and setting records in the process, other pilots were establishing their own series of records at the major air racing trophy contests of the period.
