"Draft day is so exciting for young hockey players because it's the culmination of all the hard work both the kids go through, but more importantly, it honors all of the work the parents put in as well driving their kids to the rink," said Doan, who is a native of Halkirk, Alberta.
One of the biggest thrills for the top rated prospects at the Entry Draft is sitting in the stands with their families waiting to make that walk down to the podium.
Doan entered the 1995 draft on the heels of his most productive season of junior hockey earning most valuable player honors at the Memorial Cup and many predicted Doan would be selected by the hometown Oilers.

History has looked back on Livingstone and the NHL's formation with a sense of irony: The man whom league owners had worked so hard to exclude was, in the words of Canadiens owner George Kennedy, the same figure that "made a real league".
With these developments and the onset of World War II, the NHL was reduced to six teams during its 25th anniversary year of (1942) – six teams still known today, if somewhat inaccurately, as the Original Six: the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.
The NHL and WHA fought for the services of hockey players and fans until the WHA folded in 1979, when four of its teams joined the NHL.

Aki Berg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, First Round, Third Overall.
This lack of offence probably resulted from being rushed to the NHL (in fact, Berg was still 17 when his name was called by the Kings during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft).
Thus, while he has turned into a nice complementary player at the NHL level, he has nonetheless failed to have the impact that was expected of him.

The lottery (the NHL refers to it as the Draft Drawing) involves the picks from clubs that don't make the current season's Stanley Cup Playoffs, or clubs that acquired the first-round picks of those non-playoff clubs.
