Johns Hopkins Gazette: April 10, 1995
He believes baseball endures because it is the stuff of which myths are made.
As folklorist, he is the state's chief proponent for celebrating the myths and folk ways of individuals, families and specific professions--like watermen-- who record their unique histories, traditions and customs through homespun arts, crafts and performances.
"In baseball having emotional, historical and mythic connectedness to the place where the game is played is a link to the past of a grand sport, and it's OK and even expected." Just recall the emotion surrounding the final game played at Memorial Stadium at the close of the 1992 season.

1995 World Series by Baseball Almanac
Baseball's newest dynasty had boasted a strong farm team system that featured Andruw Jones who batted.277 with twenty-five home runs, one hundred runs batted in and fifty-six stolen bases at Class-A Macon (South Atlantic) and their current line-up was just as good with Javier Lopez, Ryan Klesko and Chipper Jones at the plate.
On October 21, 1995, during the second inning of Game 1, Fred McGriff of the Atlanta Braves hit a home run in his first World Series at-bat becoming one of only a few National League players (chart below) to ever accomplish this unique feat.
On October 28, 1995 (Game 6), Tom Glavine and Mark Wohlers came within one hit, a weak single by Tony Pena in the sixth inning, of the second postseason no-hitter (the first being a thrown on October 8, 1956).

Since 1995, only baseball teams that are among the top seven in revenues have won any World Series games.
Baseball has always had “mini-dynasties” and success by big-market teams, Fort said, and their existence in the last 10 years doesn't mean the state of competition isn't any different than in the past.
And baseball has a limited antitrust exemption that has been restricted once by Congress and could be restricted again.
