The 1996 Formula One season was not one that placed great stress on the compilers of F1 statistics.
Nor were there many driver changes throughout the season - in fact, compared to recent past seasons, 1996 was one of the quietest for this.
One major change from the regular tables during the season is that the 1996 tables are sorted in alphabetical order; this solves any question of what figures to use as the basis for the sorting - pick your own, to prove your own point, if you like.

Thus we entered 1996 with a collection of blue chip companies hanging their names on the series, including Agip, Catamaran Swiss Watches, Maserati, Royales de Champagne and INA Assitalia for starters and a nine race programme to take the contenders from Italy to Hungary Russia, France, Greece, China and the UAE.
In 1996 it was the wind that howled down the Neva past the Winter Palace of the Czars to delay proceedings and those drivers who got in a good early run were happy indeed as conditions worsened.
While the location may have moved from a northern Italian lake to a southern Italian harbour side, the wind persisted to dominate the Gallipoli round of the 1996 championship and practice was postponed and then cancelled, leaving the teams to line up in the order of their overall points standing.

FORMULA ONE RACING AND THE FIA FEDERATION INTERNATIONAL DE LA AUTOMOBILE
Formula One teams must build the chassis in which they compete, and consequently the terms "team" and "constructor" are more or less interchangeable; this requirement distinguishes the sport from "spec series" such as IRL, CART, Formula 3000 and NASCAR.
Prior to 1996, only the world championship winning driver and his team generally swapped numbers with the previous champion - the remainder held their numbers from prior years, as had been originally set at the start of the 1974 season.
Throughout the 2004 season, Formula One Management president Bernie Ecclestone repeatedly voiced his disapproval of the Silverstone Circuit, and suggested that unless its owners, the British Racing Drivers Club, modernise the facilities, the British Grand Prix would not appear on the 2005 schedule.

Formula Two and Minardi beckoned for 1981, but Michele so impressed Tyrell with a one-off drive at the San Marino Grand Prix that theygave him a contract until the end of the 1983 season.
Formula Three proved an even harder nut to crack, for although he finished third overall at his first attempt, it took four full years before he moved on to Formula Two for 1983, with an ORECA-run Martini.
This form earned him a drive with Ferrari for 1959, and he stared his second season with the Italian team by finishing second in the Argentinian Grand Prix, but he was thrown from his car in practice at Monaco and broke an arm, leaving him on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
