The curators and staff of the FLMNH Department of Anthropology are actively involved in the prehistoric and historic archaeology of Florida and the Carribean.
Archaeology Lab Field Trip is arranged by the Kissimmee Valley Archaeological and Historical Conservancy as a tour of the lab at the Florida Museum of Natural History.

While historical archaeology, as practiced in North America consists primarily of the archaeology of European expansion, in Africa it is a combination of oral history, documents, and archaeology which are being used to provide a sense of the diversity of Africa's past as the presenters at this conference fully exhibited.
Over the past decade that I have been conducting research and writing in historical archaeology, I have been made continually aware that we are not, or at least should not be, "prehistoric archaeologists." In many ways this statement is true.
Rankin-Hill situates her study by discussing the difficulty of studying the history of a people who are essentially invisible in the documentary record and the importance of cemetery archaeology as a source of information on demography, health, and disease in such populations.

Students in the 1997 USF Summer Archaeological Field School received broad experience in a variety of archaeological settings in Florida.
Finally, historical archaeology was conducted at the Anclote Keys Light Station (8PI8566) under contract with the Florida Park Service.
This broad-scale field school approach, combined with formal course work in Florida archaeology, was an effective and interesting means of learning about the many different kinds of archaeological situations that exist in Florida.

The excavation revealed that Roman deposits were less extensive than anticipated on the basis of the trial trenching, but were nevertheless of interest, and contained substantial assemblages of pottery dating from the 1st to the 4th centuries AD.
Although no in situ buildings were found, the very large volume of building materials indicated that there had probably been substantial buildings in the immediate vicinity.

The St. John's Waterfront Archaeology Project is designed to uncover, record, assess and conserve archaeological vestiges of the St. John's waterfront and interpret these data through integration with the documentary record.
The Waterfront Archaeology Project operated as a field school for Memorial University of Newfoundland archaeology students, under the direction of Dr. Peter Pope of the Archaeology Unit, assisted by graduate students Amanda Crompton and John Wicks.
The City has now recognized that the handful of sites identified to date are not by themselves the archaeological reources to be protected but are, instead, a sample which suggests the rich potential of the area to be developed as the times permit.

These awards were formally known as the "Volunteer in Archaeology Award," but were expanded by the Commission to include professional archaeologists and others, such as sensitive developers, relevant Tribal programs, museum programs, and state/federal agency programs that are worthy of recognition for their public service endeavors.

From the 14th - 15th July 1997 the first AWSA conference was held at and hosted by La Trobe University, Melbourne, Victoria.
Individuals attending the conference ranged from major Australian Universities such as La Trobe, Flinders, James Cook, and Sydney, Government affiliated organizations such as the Victorian and South Australian Heritage Branches and the Parks and Wildlife departments of Tasmania and New South Wales to representatives from various archaeological consultancy firms.
Special mention must be made of papers from Martin Gibbs, from James Cook University for investigations into the Nineteenth century whaling in Western Australia and to Nigel Prickett from the Auckland Museum on sites in New Zealand.

Artefacts of fine metalwork from Early Historic Ireland are a well studied aspect of Irish archaeology, though little is usually said of the technological and social contexts in which they were produced.
This paper offers a range of interpretations for the role of Late Bronze Age lake settlements in their contemporary social, economic and sacred landscapes.
The diversity of structures and finds found on these sites suggests that they had a range of functions, not always plainly obvious from a simple 'reading' of the archaeological record.
