Raul Diaz Arce, MLS' all-time leader in goals (56) and points (128), was traded from the New England Revolution to the MetroStars for Giovanni Savarese, who ranks third all-time in the league with 41 goals.
In addition to the 28-year-old Savarese, New England received the MetroStars' second-round selection in the 2000 MLS College Draft.
Diaz Arce, who has 16 goals in 50 appearances with El Salvador's National Team, is the only player in MLS history to record four goals in a game, a feat he accomplished on two different occasions.

And for image considerations, MLS would have more prestige if it was known as a breeding ground for future stars, than if it was known as a retirement home for old veterans who want to extend their career a couple years before going to pasture.
MLS suffered less this year from loss of National team players to the US team which played a relatively light schedule this year, the Confederations Cup being the only major event on their schedule.
The W-League continued to have success in 1999, although national team members contributions were lessened this year by their heavy playing schedule on the road to the World Cup.

The initial MLS Draft was held on Feb 6th 1996.
The draft took place on Feb. 7 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Tampa Bay traded No. 16 overall pick to NE for 2nd round pick in 2000 Supplemental Draft, NE then traded No. 16 overall pick to MET for two 2nd round picks in 2000 College Draft.
Beginning this year, all collegiate, Project-40 and professional players who have entered the draft pool will be eligible for selection in the six-round SuperDraft, regardless of their domestic or international playing status.

On a Real Salt lake squad with its fair share of veterans, it seems that everyone could still learn a thing or two from Chris Brown, a consummate professional who has tasted success at virtually every level and seen time at nearly every spot on the field.
After serving primarily as a forward during his first seven professional seasons, Brown learned a new trick or two upon his arrival in Utah in 2005 after being thrust into service as a fullback and wide midfielder when injuries and national team call-ups decimated the squad for long stretches.
It appears Brown will resume his regular role up top in 2007, but don't be surprised to see him once again on the depth chart at all three field positions.
