The 1st Armored Division —nicknamed the Old Ironsides— is an armored division of the United States Army with base of operations in Wiesbaden, Germany.
As part of that buildup, the 1st Armored Division was reactivated on 7 March 1951 at Fort Hood.
The division was deployed to Texas, Florida, and Georgia, in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In the Cold War 2nd and 11th ACR were deployed on the East German and Czechoslovakian borders and expected to face full Soviet Armies by themselves until the rest of NATO could deploy.
A Cavalry Regiment was a much heavier structure than an armor or mech infantry brigade of the time.
I have no idea what being armor or cavalry in a normal FORSCOM unit is like.
