The Foundation of the 1st Cavalry Division Association was established for the purpose of providing financial assistance in the form of scholarship grants toward the pursuit of an advanced education.
Additionally, children of members of the Association who die while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in peacetime and active duty soldiers currently assigned or attached to the 1st Cavalry Division and their spouses and children are eligible to receive scholarship grants.

 Quartermaster Operations 1st Cavalry Division, Korea 1951
On the United Nations breakthrough to the north in September, 1950, one truck platoon was attached to the 7th Cavalry Regiment and another to the 8th Cavalry Regiment.
When the 1st Cavalry Division linked up with the UN forces that had landed at Inchon, Quartermaster trucks were the first convoys over the road.
Through this medium cavalry troops using the Quartermaster bath units removed their soiled clothing, showered, and were issued clean clothes from a laundered stock-pile in a matter of minutes.

The 1st Cavalry Brigade was at Aldershot, the 2nd Cavalry Brigade at Tidworth, the 3rd Cavlary Brigade was in Ireland and the 4th Cavalry Brigade was in London and the south east.
The Division was formed in August 1914 and went to France between 15 and 18 August 1914.

The 106th Cavalry originated as a National Guard unit based in Chicago, Illinois that had a proud service record extending back in history to World War I and the Spanish-American conflict, when it was known as the 1st Illinois Volunteer Cavalry or the Black Horse Cavalry.
This successful action by the 106th Cavalry gave the corps commander time to shift his forces to meet this armored threat to his flank, and the German attack was turned back.
Colonel Vennard Wilson, the commander of the 106th Cavalry Group throughout its service in Europe, paid tribute to these men in a Memorial Day address that was delivered to the troopers at the end of the war in 1945.

On several occasions now, while I was wearing the 1st Cavalry insignia I have had complete strangers come up to me and say something like this; "1st Cav, huh, that patch, the horse head is for the horse they couldn't ride, the stripe for the river they couldn't cross, etc.." You get the idea!
The field is yellow for Cavalry and the blue triangle with the sun and three five-pointed stars are from the old flag of the Philippine Insurrection with a change of color.
It was believed to have originated in the 1800's and was composed as a song, sung by the soldiers of the 6th and 7th Cavalry.

Since being deployed to Bosnia from Fort Hood, Texas, the 1st Cavalry Division has successfully waged and won a "war on excess," thanks to the division G4 and a host of other "First Team" players.
