NEW YORK (CNN) -- Two of the dates mentioned in intelligence about possible subway attacks in New York were Friday and Sunday, an official with knowledge of the investigation told CNN.

Wired New York Forum - 2 Subway Lines (A and C) Crippled by Fire
Two of the city's subway lines - the A and the C - have been crippled and may not return to normal capacity for three to five years after a fire Sunday afternoon in a Lower Manhattan transit control room that was started by a homeless person trying to keep warm, officials said yesterday.
Transit officials said yesterday that service on the A and C lines could be restored to full capacity in six to nine months, substantially revising their earlier prognosis that a fire in a Lower Manhattan signaling room would disrupt service on the lines for as long as three to five years.
Notices on subway platforms and advice from transit workers did little to temper the frustration of riders of the city's A and C lines, as those passengers got a taste of what their daily commute might be like for many months.

 New York Subway
At the outset of this era, New York County (Manhattan Island and part of the Bronx), Kings County (including the Cities of Brooklyn and Williamsburg) and Queens County were separate political entities.
In 1898, New York, Kings and Richmond Counties, and parts of Queens and Westchester Counties and their constituent cities, towns, villages and hamlets were consolidated into the City of Greater New York.
The three systems were unified and then operated by the City of New York through its Board of Transportation in 1940, which was succeeded in 1953 by the New York City Transit Authority, a state agency incorporated for the benefit of the city, now known to the public as MTA New York City Transit.

New York City's Subway system can be mystifying at times, especially when it seems like certain trains like to suddenly stop running, go a different route or just start skipping stops for no apparent reason.
So after a lot of frustration about never knowing which lines were going to be out when, I figured the only thing to do was to cobble together a system to build RSS and TXT feeds of subway outages.
With some new code under the hood and a mean spirit spurred by getting screwed by the E/V train last weekend, the site and its feeds are now back and kicking.
