  2 Baruch
Baruch is informed of the judgments which will come over the Gentiles and of the glory of the world to come, which is to exist especially for the righteous.
In the third section Baruch raises the problem of the nature of evil, which is also the theme of 2 Esdras.
Baruch asks who will share in the glory to come and is told, 'Those that believe.' The six 'fl waters' described represent six evil periods in world history, and the 'six clear waters' denote the number of good periods.

Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible [Jeremiah XXXVI].
Baruch wrote what Jeremiah dictated in a roll of a book on pieces of parchment, or vellum, which were joined together, the top of one to the bottom of the other, so making one long scroll, which was rolled perhaps upon a staff.
Baruch repeated Jeremiah's sermons publicly in the house of the Lord, on the fast-day.

Baruch 1:1-14 was written after the completion of the book expressly to form a prologue or historical explanation of the circumstances under which the rest of the book came to be written.
Baruch 2:26 must (with the best scholars) be translated as follows: "And thou hast made the house over which thy name is called as it is this day," i.e.
Moreover though Daniel 9:7-14 is largely quoted in Baruch 1:15 through 2:12, the prayer for the sanctuary and for Jerusalem in Daniel 9:16 is omitted, because the temple is not now in ruins.

 Glossary
It is sometimes termed 1 Baruch to distinguish it from two pseudepigraphical writings, The Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch (2 Baruch), and The Greek Apocalypse of Baruch (3 Baruch).
Baruch returns the Temple vessels to Jehoiakim, the high priest in Jerusalem, along with funds for burnt and sin offerings and a request that the accompanying prayer of confession be read in the Temple on feast days.
Baruch agrees with 2 Baruch 6 in associating Jeremiah’s scribe with traditions concerning the preservation of the Temple vessels (contrast Ezra 1:7-11).

PURPOSE AND MOTIFS OF 2 BARUCH
Second Baruch enters into the questioning that any Jew might have felt after 70, offers such insight into God's ways and visions of the eschatological future as the people in general could understand, and thus provides them with the eschatological urgency and hope needed to sustain their obedience to the Law.
One of the dominant motifs in 2 Baruch is its messianism.
The point the author of 2 Baruch wants his countrymen to understand is that, yes, their sin has brought this judgment upon them, and yes, they stand in need of repentance, but the judgment God has allowed it not for the purpose of eliminating Israel as a nation, but precisely to bring them to repentance.

First, if Bauckham is correct concerning both 4 Ezra and 2 Enoch then not much has changed from Sanders’ point of view and 2 Enoch becomes the classic ‘exception’ that will demonstrate the extent to which the pattern of covenantal nomism is common to Judaism.
Sanders saw 2 Baruch as representative of the covenantal nomist position in comparison with the idiosyncratic 4 Ezra.
This general framework allows the flexibility of approach that marks the contrast between the almost extreme negativity of 4 Ezra and the position in 2 Baruch where the need for human achievement can be stressed at the same time as assuring people that God will be merciful to them.

Difficulties begin when we try to see whether, and when, Baruch was in Babylon; there is nothing to support this, and the information that we have tells against this theory.
Baruch still appears at his master's side, even after the fall of Jerusalem in 587, and it seems most probable that he was deported with Jeremiah to Egypt.
The different hands responsible for the Greek translation of Baruch between 1:1-3:8 and 3:9-5:9 suggest that, whatever the origin of 3:9-5:9, it was not actually added to Baruch until the late second century or early first century B.C.E." (Introducing the Apocrypha, p.
