Virtual Egyptian - Two-layer stratified eye bead, 500-200 BC
The earliest types of eye beads (first half of the 1st millennium BC) were made by applying a trail from a molten rod of glass of a contrasting color onto a base bead—essentially drawing circles on the surface of the bead.
Around the 7th century BC, the stratified technique became most common, where the craftsman made the eye and its ring by applying pre-made disks of decreasing size on top of each other.
When glass first became widespread as a new medium available to antique craftsmen, around 1550 BC, it was a luxury item used either as an ersatz for semiprecious stones, or as an analog to stone offering new exciting colors unavailable in natural stone.

The most remarkable remains of an Iron Age community in Wales are those at Tre'r Ceiri ('the town of fortresses') on the slopes of Yr Eifl mountain in Snowdonia.
There is evidence that the village was occupied during the Roman period but it appears that its beginnings belong to the years around 200 BC.
The huts, with their thick walls and turf roofs, were no doubt quite snug, but it is reasonable to assume - as Tre'r Ceiri is over 400 metres above sea-level - that the huts were the summer habitations of shepherds whose winter dwellings in the lowlands have long been obliterated.
