		Actually smoking 200 cigarettes in the same 95 minutes couldn't be any worse for you than it is to watch the movie.
		Yet, despite all of the charisma and ability on screen, 200 Cigarettes is a tepid affair, distinguished by bland character development, uninspired and insipid dialogue, and a nonexistent plot.
		200 Cigarettes is basically about a group of people in their late-teens and twenties who are on their way to the same New York City New Year's Eve party.

		It might be hard to imagine two more different movies than The Other Sister, a feel-good foray into wealthy, dysfunctional Southern California family dynamics, and 200 Cigarettes, an indie flick portentously set in NYC on New Year's Eve 1981 and populated by an ultra-trendy cast.
		In Risa Bramon Garcia's 200 Cigarettes, exploration of character and social context is not an issue.
		The predictable flirtatious encounters appear as a series of Polaroid-looking stills, under some mildly funny commentary by Dave Chappelle to suggest all the fun that should be going on, given how long the characters and we have been waiting for the big payoff.

		At first I was highly dubious about "200 Cigarettes." From what I'd seen before hand, it looked like mediocre script at which the producers threw a lot of hip actors hoping the cast would hoist it up to their level.
		But "200 Cigarettes" is not entirely predictable along the way and, unlike "The Wedding Singer," it doesn't depend on '80s shtick for its laughs.

		200 Cigarettes is about partygoers in the East Village on New Year's Eve, 1981, and as we bop back and forth among the many converging story lines, a troubling thought arises: None of these episodes merits our time.
		Everybody vamps and preens as if it were amateur night in SoHo, and a few of the performers, such as Kate Hudson, appear ill-used -- in several scenes, she is required to walk around in a jacket smeared with dog poop.
		This sort of stunt might work in a John Waters movie, but 200 Cigarettes, for all its punk trappings, is squeaky-clean.

		The rambling multiple storylines weave and ultimately intersect during the seemingly-interminable running time, but I'd hesitate to describe the overly-cluttered 200 Cigarettes as Altmanesque: here's a film where the destination is not only inevitable, but it's no fun getting there, either.

		I assume it was titled 200 Cigarettes because there were numerous cigarettes smoked throughout the movie...but that's just my guess...
		I think that the movie is called 200 Cigarettes is because Courtney Love's character gives Paul Rudd's character a carton of cigarettes for his birthday.
		It kind of ties everything in seeing as how that was the beginning of the movie and then they both decide to quit smoking at the end.
