	FIFA World Player of the Year - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The FIFA World Player of the Year is a football award given annually to the male and female player who is thought to be the best in the world, based on votes by coaches and captains of international teams.
		He won it again in 1997 and is the only male player to have won it twice in a row (Mia Hamm and Birgit Prinz have both achieved this feat in the women's section).
		Following criticism from some sections of the media over questionable nominations in previous years in 2004 FIFA drew up a shortlist of 35 men and 21 women from which national team managers and, for the first time, team captains and representatives from FIFPro (the worldwide representative organization for professional players) could vote.

		I thnk that Shevchenko is a better pure goalscorer on the year overall than Henry, especially considering his national team appearances (Henry was definitely invisible at the Euros and spotty at the WCQ's).
		Well Massive Attack, I don't know if this FIFA Player of the Year Award is supposed to be a validation of a League's echelon status, but i guess that is one of the offshoots.
		He is the leader of a team of nobodies (Ukraine) in a World Cup qualifying group with 3 other strong teams: Denmark (who always seem to be at the World Cup), Turkey (one of the stronger countries in Europe the last few years) and Greece (Euro 2004 winners).
